AVO-2 Series

The AVO-2 series of solid-state pulse generators is designed for pulsing laser diode and other low impedance loads with rectangular current pulses as high as 10A and pulse widths as high as 50 ns. The diode load is connected in series with a low-value current limiting resistor between two output solder terminals (OUT and GND). All AVO-2 models are voltage pulsers. A series resistance is required to limit the output current to the maximum rated level, and to provide proper termination of the output transmission lines and impedance matching transformers.

AVO-6 Series

The AVO-6 series of pulsed voltage pulse generators is designed for pulsing laser diodes and other low impedance loads with rectangular current pulses as high as 10 Amperes and pulse widths as high as 50 us. Each model consists of a mainframe voltage pulser (providing a voltage amplitude VOUT), and an output module with an internal series resistance (RSERIES = 50, 12.5, or 11 Ohms, ±10%, depending on the model). When a diode is connected to the output module, the current is given by: IDIODE = (VOUT/N – VDIODE) / RSERIES where N=1 for most models (N=2 for the AVO-6D-B due to the presence of a current-doubling transformer). VDIODE is the diode forward voltage drop.

AVO-9 Series

The AVO-9 series offers a range of easy-to-use, ultra-highspeed pulsed laser diode drivers. Each model in the AVO-9 series consists of an instrument mainframe and an output module connected to the mainframe by a short coaxial cable. The mainframe generates a voltage pulse that is supplied to the output module. The output module has a special highspeed socket designed specifically for the user's packaged laser diode, and a series resistance. This arrangement provides a user-friendly “plug-and-play” setup, without degrading performance. Different output modules can be used if the user needs to drive more than one type of diode.

AVOZ-A and AVOZ-B Series

The AVOZ-A and AVOZ-B series are voltage pulsers with very high maximum current ratings (ranging from 2 Amps to 100 Amps). These pulsers are designed for delivering pulses with very fast rise times to laser diodes and other low impedance loads. For applications requiring higher voltages (e.g., for driving series-connected laser diode arrays), please see the new AVOZ-D series, which offers 500V / 50A and 700V / 70A models.

AVOZ-DF SERIES

The AVOZ-DF models are high-voltage, high-current, high pulse repetition frequency (PRF) pulse generators. The high output voltages of the AVOZ-DF models permits the testing of laser diodes and laser diode arrays with relatively high forward voltage drops (VF). Models AVOZ-DF1-B, AVOZ-DF2-B, and AVOZ-DF3-B are voltage pulsers designed to drive 10Ω load impedances. An output module is included which provides a high-current low-inductance 10Ω series resistance internally, to allow low-impedance loads (such as laser diodes) to be driven directly. The output module is connected to the mainframe using five supplied coaxial cables (giving a matched characteristic impedance Z0 of 50Ω / 5 = 10Ω, in order to minimize transmission lines reflections).

AVOZ-E SERIES

The AVOZ-E models are high-voltage, high-current pulsers ideal for testing high-current laser diode arrays, as well as testing multiple identical lower-current devices (for instance, production testing of attenuators). All models offer pulse widths adjustable from 0.5 to 10 us, and average output powers of up to 100 Watts.

AVOZ-G SERIES

The AVOZ-G models are voltage pulsers with very high maximum current ratings (ranging from 20 Amps to 100 Amps). These pulsers are designed for delivering wide pulses to laser diodes, diode arrays, and other low impedance loads.

AVOZ-H SERIES

The AVOZ-H series is intended for high-voltage, high-current, high-duty-cycle applications. Model AVOZ-H1-B can provide voltage amplitudes of up to 60V, with load currents of up to 6 Amps. The pulse width can be adjusted from 200 ns to 200 ms. The pulse repetition frequency may be adjusted from 1 Hz to 50 kHz. In the pulse mode, the maximum duty cycle is 80%. A DC mode (100% duty cycle) is also provided.
