Nd:YVO4(Neodymium-doped yttrium orthovanadate) crystals have become popular in recent times due to progress in crystal growth and also interest in diode pumping. Vanadate crystals have natural birefringent properties that helps prevent thermally induced depolarization loss in high-power lasers. These crystals have typical laser emission wavelength of 1064nm, 914nm and 1342nm. In the emission of 1342nm, the emission line is much stronger than its counter-part Nd:YAG. 


Nd:YVO4 boasts a high level of pump absorption, gain, gain bandwidth, wavelength pumping range, shorter upper-state lifetime, high refractive index, low thermal conductivity and birefringence. Applications of Nd:YVO4 includes passive mode-locked laser with high pulse repetition rate of up to 160GHz and short Q-switched pulses.
