Absorptive Neutral Density Filters 450-650nm Coating

Absorptive ND Filters make use of a coating to allow a specific wavelength range to be absorbed, while the others are transmitted. Such coatings usually have a reflection rate of less than 0.5%. They can also be due to the material and thickness of the material, which has a specific optical density of the glass type. Hence, allowing the absorption of the blocked wavelength range. 


The level of attenuation is specified by the Optical Density (OD) of the filter. OD is defined as negative of base 10 logarithm of the transmission coeeficient, where the equation can be shown as: 

OD = - Log10(T/100)


Where T is transmission in percentage, 

e.g. Nutral Density Filter with T = 1% has OD value of 2
