Quartz Wedge Depolarizer

Quartz Wedge Depolarizer is constructed with two crystal quartz wedges of 3°. Since most wedge depolarisers comprise of one crystal quartz wedge and another fused silica to minimize beam deviation value, but it is to a limited extent. Simtrum uses crystal quartz plate with optical axis along the propagation direction as the main method to reduce beam deviation. Hence our depolarizer can be used in a wide wavelength spectrum with good beam deviation quality as compared to typical depolarizer which has a narrow wavelength range to maintain its beam deviation.


Quartz are excellent birefringent crystals. Due to its high UV, VIS, and 

NIR transmittance, and its ability to rotate polarized light and high damage threshold, it is very useful for transmittance from 190-2900nm wavelength. With high hardness properties, it is commonly used in the retardation plate. Quartz can exhibit circular birefringence allowing the ordinary and extraordinary beam to propagate with the same velocity using the same refractive index. Hence its effect is useful in rotators.
