SIMTRUM 's photomultiplier tube ( PMT ) uses a vacuum tube structure and multi-stage electron multiplication technology, which can convert weak light signals into measurable electrical signals . It is a highly sensitive photodetector . By selecting different cathode materials (alkaline materials, GaAsP) , the spectral response range can cover ultraviolet to near-infrared , with high quantum efficiency ( QE ), extremely low noise and high gain, and can achieve accurate detection at the single photon level. It is widely used in frontier fields such as high -energy physics experiments, bioluminescence detection, laser radar (LiDAR), astronomical observations and nuclear medicine imaging.

Compared with traditional PMT , the stability and reliability of the product are further improved by optimizing the design and manufacturing process . It can operate stably in extreme environments and withstand strong magnetic fields and radiation interference. In addition, it has the advantages of low power consumption, long life and easy integration .

The PMT series products are designed with user convenience in mind. All detector modules have built-in amplifiers and high-voltage sources, and no additional external devices are required, which not only simplifies the system construction process, but also significantly reduces the space occupied by the equipment. In addition, the module uses a 5V DC external power supply SMA signal output interface, which not only reduces the risk of electric shock, but also improves the safety and reliability of the system.

Alkaline PMT has high cost performance and a wide spectral range (165~900 nm), suitable for ultraviolet to near-infrared detection. The rise time is 0.57 ns, which can achieve fast response. At the same time, the ripple noise is only 0.1 mV, which can meet the needs of high precision and low noise.

The GaAsP series PMT has ultra-high quantum efficiency (QE) and extremely low noise, with a spectral range of 300~740 nm, suitable for detection from visible light to near-infrared. Compared with alkaline PMT, it has higher QE, lower noise (ripple noise is only 0.6 mV), and a rise time as fast as 1 ns, which is suitable for high-precision and low-noise requirements.

Working principle

Photomultiplier tube (PMT) is a highly sensitive photodetector that uses a vacuum tube structure and multi-stage electron multiplication technology to convert weak light signals into measurable electrical signals. When photons irradiate the photocathode of the PMT (such as cesium-antimony alloy), if the photon energy is high enough (exceeding the work function of the material), the electrons on the cathode surface will be excited and escape to form photoelectrons. The electrons emitted by the photocathode are gathered into a beam through the electron optical system (such as the focusing electrode) and accelerated to the first dynode.

High-speed electrons hit the dynode (usually made of copper-beryllium alloy), and each incident electron can excite multiple secondary electrons (typical multiplication factor is 3-6 times/stage). This process is repeated in multiple dynodes (usually 8-12 stages), forming a chain amplification. When the electron hits the multiplication stage, the kinetic energy is converted into secondary electron emission. After N stages of multiplication, the total gain G is η X δ^N. Among them, η is the quantum efficiency, δ is the secondary emission coefficient, and N is the number of multiplication stages, thereby achieving exponential amplification of weak signals.

After multiple stages of multiplication, the electron flow is finally collected by the anode to form a measurable current signal. The current is proportional to the incident light intensity. The dark current of the PMT (background current in the absence of light) mainly comes from cathode thermal emission. The interference of the dark current can be reduced by cooling the device or selecting low-noise materials.
